Our story

I'm a documentary director. I've made a career out of asking strangers how they think and feel, sometimes in their darkest moments. From BAFTA-nominated Ambulance, where loved ones face the worst day of their lives, to BAFTA-nominated Educating Yorkshire, where young people spoke honestly about the struggles they faced at home and at school. I've filmed birth and death, and all the stages in between.
What I'm frequently amazed by is how much people want to share who they are. What made them them. How they feel about the joy and the dark in life. I enjoy listening, and making people feel heard.
For a long time in my own life, I felt like I couldn't share the things I struggled with. I couldn't be honest. I think a lot of men feel that. There's always a pressure to not show weakness. And it's the fundamental reason people don't always find connection -- they're scared that if they say the thing, people either won't listen, or won't understand.
Then I realised my relationship with my own dad wasn't as close as I'd hoped. After he was diagnosed with cancer in 2025, I kept asking myself the same question: why could I be close with the strangers I filmed, and talk about things I'd never talked about with my own dad?
So Stories By was born.

It made me re-evaluate connection when my dad's life was in the balance. I wanted to create something where people could listen, learn and share with their voice. And turn that impermanent, fragile thing into something you can keep.
